What Rungroup Will I Be In?
While NCRC reserves the right to make the final decision as to which rungroup our drivers are in, we don't want to make registration needlessly complicated. Here are the guidelines for rungroup membership, and under normal circumstances you should end up in the group that corresponds with your experience level.
| Group | Passing Rules | Minimum Experience |
|---|---|---|
| Race | Wheel to wheel racing, under "gentleman's rules" - no contact allowed | Previous racing experience, race license with no suspensions, or approval from ARC management |
| Open | Full track mandatory passing with no point-by | 20+ Track days experience in a car, or 15 track days with race or driving school background |
| Point-By | Full track mandatory passing with point-by | 8-20 Track days experience in a car, on multiple tracks |
| Solo | Mandatory passing on straights with point-by, optional passing in some turns | 1-7 Previous track days experience in a car |
| Driving School | School-specific | No track experience |
How Do I Move Up?
Once you're attending our events, our process for moving up through the groups is to have an instructor to a "check-out" ride-along with you. We do not formally schedule these check-out rides in advance, you simply find one of our instructors at the event, and ask for it.
The Philosophy
Regardless of your rungroup, personal driver responsibility is a cornerstone of NCRC/ARC. This means respecting other cars and drivers and their right to be on the track at the same time as you, and behaving like a mature adult. Leaving your ego at the gate will get you a long way towards satisfying this personal responsibility requirement.
We carefully review each application, and if we find that a driver has misrepresented his experience level, he will be expelled from the event and banned from the club, with no refunds.
If you have any questions about run group placement (or other relevant experience such as autocross or karting) please contact Dave.
