Thunderhill Event
June 21-22, 2008

Phil Crandall

All of us who've been to Thunderhill have been greeted in the early morning by Phil Crandall, as he collected our signature at the front gate, told a quick quip about the weather or going's on at the track, and wished us a good event. Phil passed away a couple months ago, from a heart attack and will be surely missed. He was a part of Elmer Shannon's race team, and Elmer is sponsoring the ARC race trophies and associated events on Saturday, in memory of Phil.

The American Racing Club and Northern California Racing Club will share this weekend of the season to make a fun-filled event for everyone at Thunderhill Park in Willows California. For the lower speed groups, this event will be a street school with passing only safe zones. The advanced groups will run with more open passing rules. No racing, this is for learning and having fun, and a safe dose of competition. These events are open to all ARC/NCRC club members. So whether you're a beginner or an advanced driver, come join us for a day at the track! On Saturday we'll run the bypass, and on Sunday the Cyclone - both counter-clockwise. If you are a beginner, and expect to have instruction, please make sure to note it during your registration in advance of the track day as it is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

For the ARC racers, this will be the third race weekend of the 2008 season, and include one race per day. ARC Racers should register for the event at the ARC web site.

We'll have three open track and driver's education sessions, as well as our regular Time Trial series. Please sign up for these in advance during the registration process, if you're interested.

Expect a fun atmosphere with a few more amenities than our usual events. Not only is this a full weekend event giving you tons of track time, but we're providing coffee in the morning and lunch through the Thunderhill grill for your dining pleasure.

Preparation

See our Rules page for a list of NCRC rules, as well as our Thunderhill page for more specific track configuration and local rules we'll be following for this event. Also note that you are responsible for the condition of you and your car, and should review the guidelines and tech requirements on our logistics page.

Schedule

Four Rungroups Doesn't Give You Enough Track-Time? Think Again:
Our schedule typically lists four run groups which we use to manage large differences of on-track speed and experience. If we don't fill a group, there's room for more drivers. We'll let drivers from the group above "run down" into that group if space is available. You'll have to follow the passing rules of the lower group, understand drivers in the lower run group probably have less experience/skill than you, so you'll need to drive accordingly.  We don't guarantee you can get twice the track time at every event, but this format allows flexibility for drivers to get more track time than the schedule might suggest.

How this works: The scheduled run-session enters the hot pits and lines up along the right side of the hot pit for track entry (typically, some tracks may alternate). You're in the next group up, so you line up along the left side of the hot pits. After the regular run group has entered the track, you'll be allowed on track assuming car count limit is not reached.

Refunds

If you cancel two weeks before the event, we give a full refund. Within two weeks of the event, we credit half of your event payment to a future event, but as of 48 hours before the day the event begins there are NO refunds or credits given. This includes multiple day events, even if your car breaks the morning of day one. We'll feel bad for you since we truly want you to enjoy what you paid for. However, we must cover the costs of the event that are fully committed once the event starts, or there won't be an NCRC in the future. This is a generous policy among track clubs. All NCRC credits are held with us for two years before they expire, so you have plenty of time to use them.

Rain is typically handled by the track itself, not by NCRC. Typical policy is that the track holds the event, rain or shine, unless there is an unsafe condition or damage at the track. If the event is canceled due to rain, NCRC will refund whatever portion of the total costs we can recoup.
